Eaton County to participate in statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, March 23rd at 1:00 pm; Michigan Severe Weather Awareness Week March 20-26.
March 9, 2022
Michigan’s Severe Weather Awareness Week runs from March 20-26 with the annual voluntary statewide tornado drill being held on Wednesday, March 23rd at 1:00 pm. We hope the tornado drill begins a broader conversation about emergency preparedness regarding:
- Do you have a plan?
- Where will you go?
- What will you do?
- Do you know the alert systems in your area?
- How will you communicate?
- Creating social media posts through Severe Weather Awareness Week promoting the drill and highlighting participation.
- Issuing a news release to our media partners about our participation.
- Outdoor warning siren activation for all communities in Eaton County on Wednesday, March 23rd at 1:00 pm.
- Testing of the countywide opt-in alert system (text/phone/email) on Wednesday, March 23rd at 1:00 pm.
About Severe Weather Awareness Week
Statewide Severe Weather Preparedness/Awareness Weeks are an opportunity to increase awareness of and response to severe weather hazards. They are scheduled throughout the spring, targeting a time before the spring severe weather "season" typically begins in that state. Most states also conduct a tornado drill during their awareness week, when test tornado warnings are issued at a predetermined time. Please mark your calendar and plan to participate in the drill for your local area, as this is an opportunity to test your communication methods as if it were a real situation.
