Rep. Elissa Slotkin, serving Michigan's 7th district since 2019, shared a series of statements on March 31, 2025, that addressed several pressing issues. A native of New York City and a current resident of Lansing, Slotkin, 46, discussed topics including storm recovery efforts in Michigan, food security concerns, and the need for updated trade policies.
In a post from March 31, 2025, Slotkin emphasized the importance of a coordinated effort to address ongoing power outages in Michigan due to severe storms. She acknowledged the quick response of Governor Whitmer: "With thousands of Michiganders without power still, we must all work together to make sure we quickly get the resources needed to help respond and recover from these storms. I thank @GovWhitmer for moving swiftly."
Later the same day, Slotkin turned her attention to agricultural issues, asserting the link between food security and national security. She highlighted her responsibility in addressing farmers' needs, aiming to reduce costs and support new farmer recruitment: "Food security is national security. My job is to cut out the noise and ensure we are listening to our farmers on what they need; including how we can lower costs, including labor costs, and how we can recruit and retain the next generation of farmers."
In another post, Slotkin addressed the long-term economic implications of outsourcing supply chains. She called for a modern trade policy that would bolster the middle class and protect American jobs and businesses: "For 30 years we've been outsourcing supply chains and Michigan is suffering because of it. We need a modern trade policy that strengthens the Middle Class, protects American manufacturing and jobs, and provides certainty for American businesses and farmers."
