Sen. Elissa Slotkin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, addressed several issues in a series of tweets on July 27, 2025.

In her first post at 2:56 a.m., Slotkin responded to an incident in Traverse City, stating, "I join Michiganders in praying for the recovery of the victims of this heinous act of violence in Traverse City. While we’ll learn more in the coming days, I thank the first responders and law enforcement officers who apprehended the suspect and are working hard to save lives."

Later that morning at 12:36 p.m., she commented on her approach to leadership: "I have a responsibility to chart the path through the dark tunnel and into the light, not by just complaining that it’s all bad, but by charting a strategy from beginning to end."

At 1:00 p.m., Slotkin addressed economic concerns affecting Americans: "The cost of living is too high in America, and it’s keeping hard-working people out of the middle class. That’s why I co-sponsored the Price Gouging Prevention Act."

Slotkin has served as Michigan's representative since replacing Mike Bishop in 2019. She was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. Slotkin graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998.
