Senator Elissa Slotkin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, shared a series of statements on July 28, 2025, addressing recent events in Michigan and broader national issues.
In response to an incident in Traverse City, Slotkin acknowledged the local community's resilience. On July 28, she wrote: "After the unthinkable in Traverse City, Michiganders did what I have come to expect when there’s a crisis: the community started stepping up for each other. From hospital staff going above and beyond to local organizations offering to help, it’s heartening to see the whole region" (posted at 00:41 UTC).
Later that day, Slotkin reflected on her family history and the immigrant experience in America. She stated: "We are a nation of immigrants. I’m standing here today because my great-grandfather left fear of persecution and death at 13 years old and found a place in America." (posted at 12:01 UTC).
Addressing healthcare policy and political influence in Washington D.C., Slotkin commented on corporate involvement in legislation. She posted: "No issue in Washington is more polluted by lobbyists and corporate PACs than healthcare. It's why our system is broken.
I’m one of six U.S. senators who don’t take corporate PAC money. Six out of 100. It should be 100 out of 100. Ban corporate PACs." (posted at 21:28 UTC).
Slotkin has served as Michigan’s representative since replacing Mike Bishop in Congress after the 2018 election cycle. Born in New York City in 1976, she currently resides in Lansing and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University.
