Sen. Elissa Slotkin, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, addressed several issues on her social media account on July 29, 2025.
In a post reflecting on recent events in Traverse City, Slotkin highlighted acts of courage by local residents: "Among the stories coming out in the aftermath of the violence in Traverse City this weekend: the bravery of bystanders, simply shopping on a summer day, stands out to me. In one instance, a pair of brothers-in-law from Kent County used their shopping carts to confront the" (July 29, 2025).
Later that day, Slotkin commented on energy policy debates: "We can’t be willing to scrap certain energy because it’s 'woke.' Anyone who disagrees with that is just scoring political points and doesn’t care about your electricity bills." (July 29, 2025).
In another statement regarding national interests and foreign influence, she wrote: "No foreign country should ever have a veto on our economic security." (July 29, 2025).
Slotkin has represented Michigan's 7th District since replacing Mike Bishop in 2019. She was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. Slotkin graduated from Cornell University with a BA in 1998.
