Congressman Tom Barrett, who represents Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, recently used his social media platform to highlight legislative efforts aimed at providing financial relief for working-class constituents. On August 20, 2025, Barrett emphasized the significance of tax policy changes for workers in a post stating, "No tax on overtime is exactly the kind of financial relief the working class needs to get ahead. Whether you’re picking up an extra shift at the factory or working long hours to pave a county road, the One Big Beautiful Bill delivers results for mid-Michigan’s hardest workers."

Later that day, Barrett shared updates from his visit to Owosso alongside Kelly Rossman-McKinney of the Small Business Administration. In his post dated August 20, 2025, he wrote, "It was great to be in Owosso this morning with @SBA_Kelly to check out Clark Engineering’s impressive manufacturing operation and bring together small business owners from across the community to talk about the One Big Beautiful Bill. We are taking historic action to protect".

Barrett also extended appreciation toward local businesses and organizations involved in these discussions. In a tweet posted on August 20, 2025, he stated: "Big thank you to Clark Engineering, Great Lakes Fusion, LJ Incorporated, Heritage Hollow, Josh’s Frogs, Greenlee Consulting, All Weather Mechanical, and Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership for being a part of it!"

The focus on eliminating taxes on overtime pay aligns with ongoing national debates about boosting take-home pay for hourly workers and supporting local economies through targeted tax reforms. Barrett's engagement with small business leaders in mid-Michigan reflects efforts by lawmakers to gather feedback from stakeholders directly affected by proposed legislation.
