The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has closed Crouse Road at US-23 in Livingston County after a high-load vehicle struck the bridge on Thursday, September 25. The closure began at 3 p.m. and will remain in effect until further notice as MDOT conducts a detailed inspection to determine the extent of the damage.

Crouse Road is currently shut down in both directions at US-23, and drivers are advised to use alternate routes. The closest community to the affected area is Hartland.

MDOT stated, "This closure is necessary to ensure motorist safety while the damage of the bridge is assessed."

The department also reminded drivers that they are responsible for knowing their load height. Permits are required for vehicles or objects taller than 13 feet, 6 inches when traveling on state roads. According to MDOT, collisions between vehicles and bridges can lead to serious injuries, significant property damage, and major traffic congestion. For questions or assistance regarding permits, drivers can contact the MDOT Permits Unit at 517-241-8999.
