John James, a candidate for Michigan governor, has not confirmed whether he will participate in the three upcoming gubernatorial primary debates organized by the Michigan Republican Party. The Detroit News reported that James' campaign did not respond to inquiries about his plans regarding the debates.
Recently, James has also avoided answering questions about his stance on potential Medicaid cuts and on releasing information related to the Epstein files.
Last month, during the Michigan Republican Party’s biennial conference on Mackinac Island, James did not attend a candidate forum. His absence was noted as a significant topic of discussion among conference attendees and drew criticism from within his own party. Among those voicing concern was Lisa McClain, who is the No. 4 House Republican.
The primary race for governor among Michigan Republicans remains competitive with no clear frontrunner. Each candidate is attempting to appeal to conservative voters as they prepare for the upcoming debates.
Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman commented, “Will John James actually show up for these Republican debates, or will he find more excuses not to attend? Whether James shows or not, the Republican field’s messiness and extremism will be on full display.”
