Governor Gretchen Whitmer visited several Michigan cities on Monday to discuss the recent passage of the state budget, education funding, and a new roads deal. Whitmer met with road workers in Clinton Township, students in Flint, and doctors in Kalamazoo to highlight how these legislative measures will affect residents.

According to Whitmer, Democrats in Michigan focused on protecting Medicaid and maintaining free school meals while working on the state budget. She said, "While Republicans were willing to gut Medicaid and take away free school meals, Democrats fought to protect working families from losing health care and skyrocketing costs in the state budget."

Whitmer emphasized that the budget and roads plan were designed to benefit middle-class residents. "Led by Governor Whitmer, Michigan Democrats delivered a budget and a roads plan that works for middle-class Michiganders, not just for the 1%. Even when Matt Hall tried to engineer a government shutdown to force the radical Republican budget, Democrats refused to cave on a budget that would have cost families thousands of dollars a year," she stated.

She added that Democrats will continue focusing on issues important to everyday Michiganders. "Democrats will keep delivering on the kitchen table issues that impact people’s lives the most because we believe that every working Michigander deserves a fighting chance."

Coverage of these events was provided by several local news outlets. WNEM reported on Whitmer's visit to Flint for the signing of the school aid budget. WZZM covered her appearance in Kalamazoo where she discussed Medicaid protection with lawmakers. WXYZ reported on her signing of a long-term road funding bill in Clinton Township.
