The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will hold a neighborhood meeting on November 20, 2025, to discuss plans for removing the Brooklyn Street pedestrian bridge over I-94 in Detroit. The meeting will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Dauch Scout Center’s Draper Room, located at 1776 W. Warren Ave.

Residents, elected officials, MDOT project staff, and project consultants are invited to attend. During the meeting, participants can learn about the reasons for removing the overpass, details on traffic detours during demolition, and proposed improvements for pedestrian mobility near Trumbull Crossing Apartments.

The Brooklyn Street pedestrian bridge has been closed since 2022 due to structural deterioration that made it unsafe. The bridge connected Trumbull Crossing Apartments with Wayne State University. According to MDOT, the overpass will not be replaced because its location conflicts with planned upgrades to the I-94/M-10 (Lodge Freeway) interchange.

Demolition of the bridge is scheduled for spring 2026.

"Attendees who require mobility, visual, hearing, written or other assistance for effective participation should contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@michigan.gov preferably at least five business days prior to the scheduled meeting. Forms are located on the Title VI webpage. Requests made after this timeframe will be evaluated and honored to the extent possible," MDOT stated.
