The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), together with Caledonia Township and the Kent County Road Commission, will hold a public meeting next week to discuss the upcoming rebuilding and widening of M-37 (Broadmoor Avenue/Cherry Valley Avenue) in Caledonia Township. The project is scheduled for 2026 and 2027.

The meeting will update community members on the current design plans and project schedule. Residents, local businesses, city representatives, and other stakeholders are invited to attend at any time during the event to learn more about the project and share their comments.

The meeting is set for Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Caledonia Township Hall located at 8196 M-37 (Broadmoor Ave.), Caledonia, MI 49316.

MDOT encourages anyone needing mobility, visual, hearing, written, or other assistance for effective participation to contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov preferably at least five business days before the meeting. Forms are available on the Title VI webpage. Requests made after this timeframe will be evaluated and honored as much as possible.

According to MDOT’s plans, construction work on M-37 from south of 92nd Street to north of 76th Street will begin in March with tree clearing and utility relocation. As part of the project, MDOT will realign an existing trail along the east side of M-37 and Cherry Valley Avenue between 92nd Street and 84th Street by shifting it further east to make room for a wider roadway section. During construction, this section of trail will be closed without an alternate route provided.

Coordination is underway with a related Kent County Road Commission effort that involves rebuilding sections of 84th Street both west and east of M-37, including work at the Cherry Valley Avenue intersection.

"Attendees who require mobility, visual, hearing, written, or other assistance for effective participation should contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov, preferably at least five business days prior to the scheduled meeting. Forms are located on the Title VI webpage. Requests made after this timeframe will be evaluated and honored to the extent possible," MDOT stated in its announcement.
