Sen. Elissa Slotkin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, has announced new legislation aimed at limiting presidential authority to deploy military forces domestically.

On November 13, 2025, Slotkin posted on her social media account: "The military should never be used as a domestic police force on our streets at the whims of a President. My legislation ensures that no president can turn our soldiers against our citizens by restoring checks and balances in these domestic deployments." Later that day, she acknowledged support from colleagues, stating "I thank my cosponsors @SenMarkKelly @SenDuckworth @SenBlumenthal and Sen. @RonWyden." In another post on the same date, Slotkin wrote, "My legislation, the No Troops in Our Street Act, ensures that no president can turn our soldiers against our citizens by restoring checks and balances in these domestic deployments."

Elissa Slotkin succeeded Mike Bishop as representative for Michigan's 7th District in 2019. She was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. Slotkin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University, earned in 1998.
