Senator Elissa Slotkin, who represents Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared her stance on an appropriations deal and reflected on a significant event in Michigan's history through a series of posts on social media.
On November 10, 2025, Slotkin announced her opposition to a procedural vote regarding an appropriations agreement intended to re-open the government. In her post, she stated: "Tonight, I am voting no on a procedural vote on an appropriations deal that would re-open the government. Since July, I have been clear: to earn my vote, Republicans would have to do something to bring down the cost of health care for working and middle-class Michiganders. The" (posted November 10, 2025).
Later that day, Slotkin commemorated the legacy of the Edmund Fitzgerald, a freighter that holds cultural significance in Michigan. She wrote: "Like every Michigander, I grew up with the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald. How the ship was built in a Detroit shipyard. How it was once the “Pride of the American Side”, the biggest freighter on the Great Lakes at the time, a symbol of America’s manufacturing might. Slotkin has represented Michigan’s 7th District since replacing Mike Bishop in Congress in 2019 and currently resides in Lansing. Born in New York City in 1976 and holding a degree from Cornell University earned in 1998, she brings both local ties and national experience to her role.
