State Rep. Luke Meerman | Michigan House Republicans

In response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer's 2024 State of the State Address, Representative Meerman expressed disappointment and concern. He criticized the governor's claims of battling inflation and highlighted the high grocery bills and stretched family budgets in his district.

According to Representative Meerman, the governor's spending patterns and alignment with President Biden's leftist policies contribute to the persistence of inflated prices. He stated, "Inflated prices are here to stay so long as the governor continues her frivolous spending patterns and follows in the leftist policy decisions of her friend, President Biden."

Another point of contention for Representative Meerman was the governor's emphasis on the progressive-led Green Energy Plan. While acknowledging the existence of pressing issues facing his constituents, he argued that diverting tax dollars to subsidize energy companies does not address these problems. He further criticized the plan as unsustainable and more radical than California's failed energy plan, which resulted in rolling blackouts and unaffordable energy. Representative Meerman stated, "The plan isn't sustainable, and is even more radical than the failed plan California adopted and was forced to dial back after rolling blackouts and unaffordable energy."

In conclusion, Representative Meerman expressed his lack of impression with the governor's definition of progress and criticized what he perceived as smoke and mirrors in her administration.
